I am available, by negotiation, to support your learning. My training was in teaching secondary physics, sciences and mathematics. Examples of the qualifications I have taught successfully in the past include A level physics, electronics and mathematics and GCSE physics, science and mathematics.
I have a particular interest in supporting sixth form and adult students who have sadly not achieved as good a grade as they hoped for in GCSE mathematics but need a better grade in order to progress to their chosen university course or career. Or who simply want a better grade for their own personal satisfaction.
My take on tutoring retake GCSE mathematics
Sometimes in my experience, what is required is improved confidence and self-esteem rather than any great improvement in your mastery of the subject. Some students have a good enough grasp of the subject to gain the desired grade, but don’t believe in themselves enough, or suffer from the shutters closing when mathematics is mentioned. Some students just find that their mind seems to go to mush when they approach a problem in mathematics. Do any of those descriptions sound familiar?
This fear of mathematics is sometimes caused by a bad experience while learning the subject, or a misconception picked up many years ago, perhaps even in primary school, that has not yet been identified and resolved. Every student is different and the first thing that I do is listen to how you approach solving mathematical problems and explore the difficulties you are experiencing. When I understand where you are at, it is much easier to help you to move to where you need to be. Together we can usually make progress. I can't promise you'll ever enjoy mathematics, but usually you'll find it a lot less daunting.
I support sixth form and adult students to succeed, whatever they are working towards, with a coaching approach. I take great pleasure in enabling people to achieve what they thought may be impossible for them.
My fees are modest and, of course, I do not charge for initial meetings to establish your individual needs. I hope that you will want to contact me to discuss whether I might be the right person to release your potential and help you succeed. If you are interested you can have a look at my CV. I look forward to hearing from you.
Online vs. in person tutoring
As you might expect I prefer to tutor in person but sometimes it is difficult to travel and online tuition is possible. Online tuition facilitates learning remotely, you in your own home perhaps and me in mine. We can use applications such as Google Meet so that we can see and hear each other. We can also use an interactive whiteboard that can be shared, which is often useful. You would need a computer/laptop/tablet (a smartphone is probably a little too small) and a reasonable broadband connection. You’re probably familiar with Google Meet, if not you can read about it here. You might like to practise with an online whiteboard; they can be quite tricky to use! Try this one: A Web Whiteboard.
